"Natural Instant Coffee"
Certainly not Instant Coffee from a supermarket shelf. The only thing "instant" about our version is the speed and convenience of preparation.
- Grind the beans or spoon in 10-15gm of pre-ground Strong Roasted beans.
2. Pour boiling water over the coffee. (We advise against pouring hot liquid into a glass vessel – we use heat-rated glass for this demo).
And that’s your coffee in an instant!
The basics of this brew we learned from the way Indonesians have been enjoying their coffee in their kampungs for generations. They grind (or rather, pound) their beans coarse and enjoy their drink while chewing into the grind and swallowing the lot. So, in between their sips, they would stir the drink to bring up the grinds.
They add a fair amount of sugar as Indonesians simply love sugar and drink their coffee black as milk is expensive. As a treat, they will add condensed milk.
Our version is a bit different.
To make a cup,
Grind 10-15gm beans (Strong Roast) as fine as for espresso and put it in the cup.
Pour boiling water over the grind in the cup, filling it
Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of vanilla syrup and stir. We’ve substituted sugar with vanilla syrup for a more interesting taste.
Let it cool a bit just as you would with instant coffee.
Sip and enjoy.
By the time you finish your drink, the finely ground residue will have settle on the bottom of your cup and formed a rather solid lump which you can easily remove.
